Managing Rural Diffuse Pollution, a two-day international conference highlighting best management practices, will take place at the University of Edinburgh from 5-6 April 2005.

Organised by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and the Scottish Agriculture College (SAC) and endorsed by the Institute of Water Association (IWA) as one of their Leading Edge Conferences, the event will feature a range of presentations from a number of Scottish and international speakers. 

Presentations will address a wide range of issues relating to diffuse pollution including managing diffuse pollution, cost effectiveness of best management practice, and persuading land users to adopt best practice, as well as case studies from around the world - the USA, South Africa, Austria and China will be among those countries represented.

Notes:
Diffuse pollution is pollution that comes from many different sources. Diffuse pollution is closely linked to land use; for example the application of fertiliser to farmland, or forestry plantations; livestock stocking rates on pastureland; handling and transport of oil, chemicals, raw materials and products through river catchments, but especially on industrial and commercial estates.
